Dec 24th, 2011

(Reuters) - Mohamed, a 25 year-old Palestinian refugee from Bethlehem, sits with his belongings next to a Christmas tree outside a police station in Orestiada town, after crossing the Turkish-Greek border in Evros river area, about 950 km northeast of Athens, December 24, 2011. Last year, some 128,000 illegal immigrants crossed into Greece, more than 40,000 of them at the Evros border area. Arrivals of illegal migrants jumped at the northern border last year -- by an annual 369 percent in the nine months to September, according to the EU border agency Frontex.
